Introduction to Astronomy

After the increase in awareness amongst the public for all things astronomical, it’s apparent that stargazing from home is on the rise. However, it can be daunting if you’re just starting out. Telescopes or binoculars? What is a star? What is a light year? Using star charts and finding dark skies; where does it all end? Or, more importantly, where do you start?

Well fear not, as our informed team of Astronomers are here to help get you started with the basics. Suitable for the whole family, these events are designed to inspire people of all ages, with our fun and interactive learning experience. Sessions include how to navigate the constellations, phases of the Moon, the Solar System, meteorites and telescope workshops.

We will have a series of short and snappy sessions to cover the basics with information guides to take away with you.

Using our state of the art facilities we will set you all of on a journey of discovery, and of course if it’s clear, we will use our big telescopes to observe the sky, and if not then we have the technology to bring it all alive.

During this session we will focus on:

Seasons

Eclipses

The ecliptic
