Aurora at the Inn
About this event
Join the expert team from Kielder Observatory for a night dedicated to one of nature’s most spectacular light shows — the Aurora Borealis.
From our vantage point on Hadrian’s Wall, we sometimes catch glimpses of the northern lights dancing across the horizon. But even when the skies don’t deliver, this event will immerse you in the science, stories, and wonder of the aurora. Discover what causes these dazzling displays, how best to predict and observe them, and tips for capturing them on camera.
Whatever the weather, our passionate astronomers will guide you on an unforgettable journey of discovery, with inspiring talks, demonstrations, and opportunities for your questions. If the skies are clear, we’ll step outside to explore Northumberland’s internationally recognised Dark Sky Park, where countless stars and the Milky Way arch overhead.
Every event supports our charitable mission
Kielder Observatory is a registered charity dedicated to making astronomy accessible to all. By joining us, you’re not only creating a memory to last a lifetime — you’re helping us inspire the next generation of stargazers and scientists.
On site we have a huge range of telescopes guided by Kielder's expert night sky navigators for when the skies are at their best. And for when they're hiding, our team will welcome you into our a planetarium for an immersive dark skies experience undercover.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned sky-watcher, Aurora at the Inn promises an evening that’s educational, inspiring, and unforgettable.
