There was plenty to celebrate at Twice Brewed Inn on Sunday 31st May as friends, supporters and guests gathered to mark the official launch of Kielder Observatory's newest astronomy experience.

Drinks on arrival

Set against the backdrop of Hadrian's Wall and the stunning Northumberland landscape, which comes to life at night under some of the darkest skies in the UK, the event marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the charity as we expand our mission to inspire curiosity and connect people with the wonders of the universe.

Guests arrive for the celebrations

Helping us mark the occasion was actor, presenter and proud Northumbrian Robson Green, who officially launched the observatory experience by unveiling a commemorative plaque and sending a bottle rocket soaring skyward – a fitting way to kick off a venture dedicated to exploration and discovery.

The celebrations also included the unveiling of a very special addition to the observatory. One of our telescopes has been named "Robson's Reflector" in recognition of Robson's passion for Northumberland and his ongoing support for sharing the region's natural beauty with audiences across the world.

The launch represents much more than a new venue. Through our partnership with Twice Brewed Inn, we're creating new opportunities for people to experience the night sky in one of the UK's most spectacular Dark Sky locations. Visitors can enjoy a purpose-built observatory, immersive planetarium experiences and expert-led astronomy sessions, all alongside the warm hospitality that has made Twice Brewed such a beloved destination.
