Event Information
Update 2 October 2026: Our astronomy programme is continuing, with events running throughout the coming months.
Renovation works at Kielder Observatory are taking longer than expected, so events taking place over the coming weeks are being relocated to the historic stone Barn at Kielder Waterside, the oldest building in Kielder and an atmospheric setting for an evening of astronomy, with telescopes, stargazing, our planetarium, talks and activities led by the Kielder Observatory team.
If you are already booked onto an affected October event, we will contact you directly with the confirmed location and your options. There is no need to contact us in the meantime.
For events later in the autumn and beyond, you can continue to book with confidence. If an event booked at Kielder Observatory is affected, we will contact you directly in advance with everything you need and your options. Events at Twice Brewed Inn Observatory remain unaffected.
We run hundreds of ticketed public astronomy sessions each year, welcoming visitors to experience the dark skies of the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. Our sessions are designed for all levels of knowledge, from complete beginners to experienced stargazers, with sessions for adults, families and children aged 6+.
Most sessions last up to three hours and combine an introduction to the Observatory with an accessible presentation exploring a particular theme in astronomy or space science. When the skies are clear, we spend as much time as possible observing through our telescopes, guided by our astronomy team.
Every visit is different. During the darker months, sessions take place beneath some of the darkest night skies in England. In summer, when full darkness arrives much later, you may instead experience spectacular sunsets, bright stars and planets, solar observing, and occasionally noctilucent clouds.
Alongside our main evening sessions, we run shorter Weekend Late Night sessions and dedicated family sessions including Young Explorers and Space Kids, so you can choose the experience that best suits your group.
Both Kielder Observatory and Twice Brewed Inn Observatory are only open to visitors attending a scheduled session. Places are limited and all visitors must book a ticket in advance. Please check our calendar for current availability and locations.
If you have a question that isn’t answered here, our team will be happy to help.
