Accessibility
We want everyone to feel welcome at Kielder Observatory. The site is level or ramped throughout, with two fully accessible telescope rooms. Our Sir Pat 16” telescope is mounted at a height suitable for wheelchair users. One turret has six steps, but the others are accessible. A wheelchair-accessible toilet is available.
Parking is 80 metres from the building on an unsealed surface. Visitors who cannot manage the walk can be dropped at the entrance. Drivers with access needs may park beside the observatory, and we ask you to let us know in advance so we can reserve space.
We also run Relaxed Astronomy events, designed to be quieter and slower paced, giving more time for comfort and enjoyment.

We have worked with AccessAble so you can find out about our facilities before you visit. AccessAble’s surveyors assessed our venue to create a Detailed Access Guide. Check out the Detailed Access Guide to Kielder Observatory.
