To join KOAS or to renew your KOAS membership we invite you to apply as follows:

Print a copy of the appropriate membership application form (for Full Membership or
Friends Membership as required.

Complete the application form with your details

Pay the membership fee by one of the following methods:

Kielder Observatory events are dependent for their success on volunteer helpers who give their time freely to assist with the running of all events. Without these volunteers the observatory could not function. Volunteers who attend 12 or more events in a year are rewarded with free membership of KOAS.

To use the correct terminology, KOAS is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with a Constitution that sets out how the organisation must operate. The Membership is responsible for ensuring that KOAS is operated in accordance with the constitution and to that end will elect Trustees who will take most decisions on running and developing the Observatory facility.

As a member you will be entitled (and encouraged) to attend the Annual General Meeting (and any other General Meetings that may be called from time to time) and you will have voting rights during those meetings. At the Annual general Meeting you will be asked to vote to elect or re-elect Trustees. There may be other resolutions discussed at the meetings on which you will be asked to vote.

KOAS Membership brings you the following benefits:

  • Two places on any standard priced observatory event, including external events held at other locations.  These events must be booked during your year of membership.
  • Entry to and Voting Rights at the KOAS Annual General Meeting
  • The opportunity to support the continuing development of the Kielder Observatory Facility
  • A Quarterly Newsletter keeping you up to date with developments at the Observatory, and bringing you topical astronomy articles, observing notes and images contributed by other members
  • Access to the KOAS Membership Community where you can obtain help, advice and support to develop your interest in astronomy

For those who are unable to get to the Observatory, or simply don't want to be concerned with voting, but would still like to show their support for the Observatory's aims and ideals, we are introducing a cheaper scheme called "Friends of KOAS".

This will not include voting rights but will bring the following benefits:

  • The opportunity to support the continuing development of the Kielder Observatory Facility
  • A ‘Friends Pack’ including photos of the observatory and a Certificate of Membership
  • A Quarterly Newsletter keeping you up to date with developments at the Observatory, and bringing you topical astronomy articles, observing notes and images contributed by other members

  • A Quarterly Newsletter keeping you up to date with developments at the Observatory, and bringing you topical astronomy articles, observing notes and images contributed by other members

For those who are unable to get to the Observatory, or simply don't want to be concerned with voting, but would still like to show their support for the Observatory's aims and ideals, we are introducing a cheaper scheme called "Friends of KOAS".

This will not include voting rights but will bring the following benefits:

  • The opportunity to support the continuing development of the Kielder Observatory Facility
  • A ‘Friends Pack’ including photos of the observatory and a Certificate of Membership
  • A Quarterly Newsletter keeping you up to date with developments at the Observatory, and bringing you topical astronomy articles, observing notes and images contributed by other members
  • Access to the KOAS Membership Community where you can obtain help, advice and support to develop your interest in astronomy
