Kielder Observatory are delighted to launch a brand new dark sky astrophotography competition!

Our competition was created to celebrate the places in the United Kingdom which are protected against light pollution by designation from The International Dark Sky Association (IDA). Therefore, only images taken in and around IDA-designated dark sky areas will be eligible to enter. There are 14 such places in the UK - You’ll find a full list of those places on our submission form below.

There are 9 prizes up for grabs across the 3 different categories -

• UK Dark Sky Photographer 2021
• Young Dark Sky Photographer 2021
• Smartphone Dark Sky Photographer 2021
